Coastal Academy Receives Distinguished School Visit

This morning, Tuesday, March 9, 2010, Coastal Academy is welcoming visitors from the California Distinguished Schools team. The guests will spend part of the day verifying the great work that is being accomplished for students. We are honored to host this prestigious group and are excited to share our learning opportunities with them. The California Distinguished School is an award given by the California State Board of Education to public schools within the state that best represent exemplary and quality educational programs. Around five percent of California schools are awarded this honor each year following a rigorous selection process. Eligibility is based on federal and state criteria including Academic Performance Index, the No Child Left Behind program, and Adequate Yearly Progress. The program was established in 1985 and is valid for four years. Coastal Academy now serves over 600 students in grades K-8.
