JumpStart Keynote Speaker Featured on CBS

The Classical Academies is hosting the 10th Annual JumpStart Parent Education Conference featuring keynote speaker, Dr. Jean M. Twenge, Professor of Psychology at San Diego State University. She is the author of more than 130 scientific publications and six books, including iGen: Why Today’s Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy–and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood,  Generation Me, and The Narcissism Epidemic. Her research has been covered in Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, USA Today, U.S. News and World Report, and The Washington Post, and she has been featured on Today, Good Morning America, Fox and Friends, NBC Nightly News, Dateline NBC, and National Public Radio. She recently spoke on CBS addressing “Social Media, The Scourge of Adolescence.” Dr. Twenge holds a BA and MA from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. She lives in San Diego with her husband and three daughters.

National Youth Arts Honors 24 students from The Classical Academies

The 13th Annual National Youth Arts Awards honored 24 Classical Academy students for their musical theater performances and their excellence in the arts. More than 600 productions were considered in 17 states and the United Kingdom. Congratulations to Lori Grimes, Jennifer McCormick, Karyn Imel, and Bruce Gearhart for their award-winning productions of Beauty and the Beast, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Little Mermaid, Into the Woods Jr., and Seussical the Musical. Classical Academy Online Student Receives National Recognition 

Ninth grade student Kenna Chase was one of twenty San Diego women who was honored with a national award from the National Council for Women in Technology. Kenna  has earned her Girl Scout bronze and silver awards for service to the community and currently learning multiple programming languages. She loves to tutor and mentor other girls in math, science, and technology. Kenna hopes to combine her love of programming and technology to become a computer scientist or engineer. Skylar Wireman Shines in $10,000 National Derby at Showpark Racing Festival

Competing in her first national derby, Wireman and her mount Captivated jumped to fifth place overall, taking home The Plaid Horse Highest Scoring Junior award.

The Plaid Horse Highest scoring junior award highlights the accomplishments of junior riders in a field that’s usually topped by professionals. “I had no idea that there was an award for the high scoring junior, but when they told me, I was thrilled,” Wireman said about the prize.   “It was an honor to be lined up with all the pros and to be recognized by The Plaid Horse and have my photo taken!”

Seniors Win FutureBoss Entrepreneurship Competition

Classical Academy Online seniors Scott Pittsford and Kaiulani Gonzales took home 1st and 3rd place in The FutureBoss entrepreneurship competition.

Futureboss is a free project-based student entrepreneurial training and business plan competition. It teaches students to develop ethical business values while providing a channel to help entrepreneurs start a business.

The competition was held on Monday, April 16, 2018, at the University of San Diego and began with over 600 applicants countywide. Thirty-three applicants were accepted to finals, and 25 graduated from the program. Students were evaluated on extra-curricular activities, leadership roles, small business experience, an essay and video contest, and evidence of entrepreneurial spirit and initiative.
