Student Activities

Student Leadership

Associated Student Body (ASB)

ASB is open to 7th and 8th grade students at Coastal Academy and is split into two classes, 7th Grade ASB and 8th Grade ASB. Students grow their leadership skills through mentorship and service, while electing their own officers, planning and directing school events, and managing fundraisers and community service projects. There are many opportunities for students to identify an area of interest and serve on a corresponding committee that allows them to pursue their identified passion. ASB supports the students, families, and the Coastal Academy community through their service. Interested students are welcome to apply, interview, and provide references for consideration.

For questions and/or comments please contact  ASB Teacher Danik Brock at danikbrock@classicalacademy.com.

On Campus FUN

Throughout the year students and parents are invited to get involved with various activities on campus, including the back to school BBQ, the art fair, school assemblies, school spirit days, Scholastic Book Fair, Science Fair, History Fair, park days, Annual Food Drive, and a community service project.

Field Trips

Coastal Academy plans field trips several times each year for students and their families to attend. Field trip opportunities might include the opera, Legoland’s educational programs, a visit to a museum, the zoo, or another educational excursion. All school field trips are designed to be family-friendly, meaning the entire family is welcome to attend unless otherwise stated. Parents are responsible for their children at all school field trips and events.

Students in grades 4-8 also have the opportunity to take educational and enriching overnight class trips, including Sacramento and San Francisco, Pathfinder Ranch, Astrocamp, Catalina Island, and the East Coast.

The Classical Academy annually hosts Super STEM Saturday, a science event that encourages hands-on learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This year’s STEM event will be held March 13, 2021 at California State University San Marcos. For more information about this event visit: Super STEM Saturday

Visual & Performing Arts

Art

Coastal Academy’s art program is designed to build a strong foundation in the visual arts, as well as inspire and encourage children in various media. Students in grades K-8 study various artists, art history, art movements, and learn about and how to incorporate the elements and principles of design into works of art.  Projects are aligned with California State Visual Arts Standards and provide students with a well-rounded and thorough experience in the visual arts. Projects begin with an introduction to a particular artist, technique, or art movement. Each student explores the elements and principles of design pertinent to the project, learns art terms, discusses works of art, and has studio time to create masterpieces.

Music

Music is provided for students in grades K-8. Students participate in a variety of activities, encouraging them to sing, dance, and play.  Music is influenced greatly by the teachings of Orff Schuelwerk, which utilizes a child’s natural speech, body movement, and cultural folk songs.  Children learn to play classroom instruments, such as xylophones, glockenspiels, recorders, ukulele, and a variety of percussion instruments, and eventually learn to improvise and compose.

Musical Theater

Annually, Coastal Academy produces a full-scale junior musical theater production in a professional theater.  Students in grades 4-8 bring their best acting, singing, and dancing to the stage, complete with professional staging, props, costumes, and music. Musical Theatre is an extra-curricular program and productions are held each spring.

Past productions have included Seussical The Musical, Honk Jr, The King And I, Alice In Wonderland Jr., Mulan Jr., Fiddler On The Roof Jr., The Little Mermaid Jr., The Music Man Jr., The Lion King Jr., Beauty and the Beast, and Princess Whatsername.
