Coastal Academy High School alumna Caitlyn "Caity" Simmers claimed the prestigious title of World Surfing Champion at the 2024 World Surf League (WSL) Lexus Finals in early September. Simmers defeated reigning champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Caroline Marks, making her the youngest female world champion in surfing history at 18. When reflecting on her achievement, Simmers expressed gratitude for her family and community. "Homeschooling with Coastal Academy allowed me the flexibility to pursue my dreams. I was able to be on the championship tour while staying on top of my education," she said. Simmers' triumph secures her place in surfing history and inspires female athletes worldwide.
