Coastal Academy 8th-grade students Olivia Merkey and Cora Norman were awarded second place in the Earth and Environmental Sciences category at the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair (GSDSEF). These students researched, developed, and completed experiments on protecting coral reefs and cleaning up oil spills. The Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair (GSDSEF) is an annual event that showcases the scientific and engineering talents of students from the San Diego area and provides a platform for young scientists and engineers to present their research projects, compete for awards, and gain recognition for their hard work and innovation.
